"Orang" and "Oghae" in Bahasa Melayu mean "people." It is frequently used as a prefix to indicate locality of a person, such as Thai people (Siam/Siyae) or Melayu people (Nayu). The Orang Siyae / Oghae Nayu exhibition intends to investigate over a matter of defining what it means to be "Melayu" and "Thai", based on Prach's firsthand experience —whose family have had to move back and forth between Narathiwat and Bangkok— through growing up and harvesting stories from the two regions he has lived in from the past to the present. Until todays, his sentiments from childhood of being alienated due to different languages usage still continue to hauntingly create an image of a provincial person who cannot speak Thai clearly and a Thai who speaks Melayu unclearly. Such sensation of being marginalized as if pushed to be an outsider has resulted in his excessive longing and trying to be part of the two society.
The Orang Siyae / Oghae Nayu exhibition consists of experimental video titled Makae Tea’ —a Melayu phrase meaning drinking tea, which is the Thai Muslim's collective way of life and culture in the Deep South of Thailand. The film illustrates a heartfelt story about everyday communication. The sound installation has been created through field visits and interviews with family members and researchers on Melayu-ness. The sculpture installation displays the distinctions between diverse types of tea leaves from various sources. The combination of multifarious tea leaves obtaining not only one but multiple flavors deliberately raises open-ended suspicions for people in society to search for individual harmony, within themselves.
“โอรัง” และ “ออแฆ” ในภาษามลายู หมายถึง “ผู้คน” มักใช้แทนคำนำหน้าเพื่อบ่งบอกถึงพื้นถิ่น เช่น คนไทย (สยาม/ซิแย) หรือ คนมลายู (นายู) นิทรรศการ ออรังซิแย / ออแกนายู จึงเป็นการตั้งคำถามถึงนิยามความเป็น “มลายู” และ ความเป็น “ไทย” จากประสบการณ์ตรงของปรัชญ์ซึ่งครอบครัวต้องโยกย้ายไปมาระหว่างนราธิวาสและกรุงเทพฯ ผ่านการเติบโตและเก็บเกี่ยวเรื่องราวจากทั้งสองภูมิภาคซึ่งเขาอาศัยอยู่ตั้งแต่อดีตจนปัจจุบัน ความรู้สึกถึงความแปลกแยกจากการใช้ภาษาในการสื่อสารที่ผิดแผกออกไปตั้งแต่วัยเด็กยังคงส่งผลให้เกิดภาพของคนต่างจังหวัดที่พูดไทยไม่ชัดและคนไทยที่พูดภาษามลายูไม่ชัดในปัจจุบัน เสมือนกับว่าเขาถูกผลักให้เป็นคนชายขอบและถูกตัดสินให้เป็นคนนอกมาโดยตลอด ส่งผลให้เกิดความโหยหาและพยายามเป็นส่วนหนึ่งกับสังคมนั้น ๆ
นิทรรศการ ออรังซิแย/ออแกนายู ประกอบด้วย ผลงานภาพยนตร์ทดลอง มาแกแต ซึ่งเป็นคำมลายูท้องถิ่นหมาย ถึงการชักชวนมาดื่มน้ำชา เปิดเผยชีวิตและวัฒนธรรมร่วมของชาวไทยมุสลิมในจังหวัดชายแดนใต้ บอกเล่าเรื่องราวฝังใจจากการสื่อสารในชีวิตประจำวัน ผลงานเสียงจัดวางเล่าจากการลงพื้นที่สัมภาษณ์พูดคุยกับผู้คนใกล้ตัวและนักวิจัยเกี่ยวกับความ เป็นมลายู ผลงานประติมากรรมจัดวางแสดงถึงความต่างของใบชาแต่ละชนิดจากหลายแหล่งที่มา การผสมผสานกันของใบชาเพื่อส่งเสริมรสชาติมากกว่าความเป็นหนึ่งเดียว จงใจตั้งคำถามปลายเปิดสำหรับผู้คนในสังคมว่าด้วยการค้นหาความกลมกล่อมของแต่ละตัวตนจากภายใน
